Evaluation Period

An evaluation period is when coaches spend most of their time evaluating recruits. While college coaches may be travelling to see athletes compete, they are not allowed to meet with players off campus. 

The following are permitted during an evaluation period:

  • Official and unofficial visits 

  • Letters/emails

  • Calls 

  • Evaluations (high school or club games)

Contact Period

A contact period is when almost any type of contact between athletes and college coaches is permitted. College coaches may be limited in their ability to contact athletes during this period, depending on a recruit's sport and grad year. 

Athletes are allowed to meet with a coach off campus during a contact period, however, this can only occur during an athlete's senior year. This can take the form of a home visit or any other type of meeting. Coaches are also allowed to see athletes compete during a contact period.

The following are permitted during a contact period:

  • Official and unofficial visits 

  • Home visits or other in-person meetings off campus

  • Letters/emails

  • Calls 

  • Evaluations

Dead Period

The only restriction during a dead period is that athletes are unable to have in-person contact with college coaches. Thus, athletes cannot meet with a coaches on or off campus during this period. 

The following are permitted during a dead period:

  • Letters/emails

  • Calls 

  • College visits (cannot meet coach)

Quiet Period

A quiet period is when a college coaches can only meet with athletes on campus.

The following are permitted during a quiet period:

  • Official and unofficial visits 

  • Letters/emails 

  • Calls
