Recruiting for Seniors

Recruiting in an Athlete's Senior Year

It is not too late to get recruited if an athlete is in their senior year of high school. In reality, many coaches recruit through the summer. Coaches end up having to fill up last minute roster openings for many reasons including the following: having yet to fill their rookie class and a current player choosing to leave for another program.

When Do Coaches Stop Recruiting Student-Athletes?

Many coaches will fill their rosters during the fall; however, recruiting sometimes does not go as planned, resulting in coaches recruiting into the summer months. As a result, if an athlete is a senior, they still have a chance of getting an offer. The following are reasons why coaches might find themselves filling out their roster late into the recruiting process:

  • Program is not done filling out spots

  • An athlete decommits

  • A current player transfers to another institution

  • Coaching change causing current and new athletes to leave
